Being Photographed

As a photographer, you should understand the feeling of what it is like being the person in the picture.

When taking pictures of others, you have to understand what it is like for them and whether or not they can be comfortable with it.

With some clients, you may notice that their shoulders are hunched or they have that very uncomfortable forced smile. In order to help them get more relaxed, think about what calms you down.

Talk to your subject. Make jokes, or tell them what to do so they're not awkwardly standing there not sure how to pose or where to put their hands.

Kali Libby is an Northern Illinois dance major who has been in pictures her whole life.

Libby believes that the best part of being photographed is being able to see yourself by how others see you. With that being said, take into terms of the different point of views.

Think about how you see yourself versus how other's see you. Bring that knowledge with you when taking pictures of others. Get the different angles, views, etc, on how you see the person.

When Libby is alone with the photographer, she said that it can be a little awkward. This is where you have to make your subject feel as though they can trust you and get to know you. The best way for Libby to feel comfortable is making her laugh.

When you're taking the pictures of your subject, make sure to understand what they want these photos done for. Whether it's a wedding, portraits, or even just because, know the meaning behind the pictures.

When Libby gets her dance photo shoots done, she said, "Potentially using them on my social media sites to promote myself."

Being photographed can be a hard thing to do for some. Whether it is feel awkward or they don't like their picture taken, try to help them want to have their photos done!
